Peter Aykroyd, snl Dan Aykroyd's brother and former cast member and writer on "Saturday Night Live," has died. He was thought to be 66 years old. The reason of death has not been disclosed.
Aykroyd's death was revealed on Saturday's "Saturday Night Live" episode hosted by Simu Liu. The show featured an homage to the late comedian in the shape of "The Java Junkie," a short film in which he appeared. Aykroyd plays a buggy character who darts about town to satisfy his coffee addiction in the noir satire. The short concludes with a title card honouring Aykroyd.

Peter Aykroyd was born on November 19, 1955, in Ottawa, Canada, and grew up with his elder brother, Dan Aykroyd. After appearing in "The New Avengers" and "SCTV," he launched his career in comedy by joining the Second City comedy company in Toronto.
In 1979, Aykroyd joined "Saturday Night Live" as a writer and featured player. During his year-long stint on the show, he received a joint Emmy nomination for best writing in a variety or music programme.

Throughout his career, Aykroyd collaborated with his brother, appearing in films such as "Coneheads" and "Spies Like Us." Peter and Dan also collaborated on the comedy "Nothing But Trouble" in 1991. He also appeared as a voice actor in the animated series "The Blues Brothers," opposite Jim Belushi. On "Saturday Night Live" and in the 1980 comedy picture, the duo took on the roles created by their respective brothers, Dan and John.
In the late 1990s, Peter Aykroyd and Christopher Chacon collaborated as co-creators on the Canadian sci-fi series "PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal," presented by his brother Dan. The show aired for four seasons.
